Fake Police Nabbed For Robbing People From Botswana.

SA 'fake cop' hijackers bust, 24 vehicles recovered.

Police in Mahikeng have arrested three men suspected of being the ring leaders of a gang who posed as police officers to target travellers from Botswana, robbing their victims of their vehicles and cash over a seven-month reign of terror.

Yesterday, South African Police Service’s brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone told The Monitor that 24 vehicles had been recovered, 21 of these in Mahikeng and the rest in Seweding village in Kuruman, Northern Cape.

He said it was presently unclear how many of the vehicles were from Botswana as the plate numbers had been altered. Police are currently verifying the vehicles’ registration, while some owners have been able to identify their property.

“One suspect is still on the run and we are on the hunt for him,” he said by telephone.

“Some of the vehicles have been identified by their owners, and while we will need to verify the registrations, it is clear some of these vehicles are from Botswana.”  According to the police, the suspects targeted vehicles bearing Botswana registration between September 2018 and March 2019, most of these entering South Africa through the Ramatlabama gate.

Victims were stopped by the fake police, before being robbed of their vehicles, cash and valuables. The suspects sometimes forced their victims to withdraw cash from ATM.  “Information available suggests the suspects used a blue light and posed as either traffic or police officers to stop unsuspecting victims.

“The suspects would then take the victims vehicles, before robbing them of their cash and other valuables, including bank cards. “In some instances, the victims were coerced to disclose their bank cards PIN codes and these would be used to withdraw cash from the victim’s accounts,” Mokgwabone said.

The three suspects are due to appear before the Mmabatho Magistrate’s Court today (Monday) facing charges of car-jacking, aggravated robbery and kidnapping.

Mokgwabone said all the suspects in the matter were South African citizens, with those in custody aged between 25 and 30 years of age.

They were arrested last Thursday by the Mahikeng Flying Squad and Cluster Trio Task Team in Mothibistad in the Northern Cape.

The arrests bring huge relief to Batswana travellers, who had grown fearful of crossing into South Africa as reports of the hijackings intensified late last year.

TESLA IS COMING TO SA.

You can soon buy a Tesla in South Africa - here's everything you need to know, including prices and specs.

  • Elon Musk on Tuesday tweeted that a Tesla store will open in South Africa by the end of 2019.
  • Tesla vehicle prices start at roughly R500,000 for the cheapest model – and go up to R2.8 million for the most expensive.
  • The average Tesla model can travel over 500km on a single charge.

Elon Musk, who left South Africa when he graduated from high school in 1989, plans to open Tesla’s first store in this country in 2019.
Tesla is a US electric automative trailblazer, praised for the distance its vehicles can travel on an electrical charge.
In reply to a Tesla tweet about new store openings in the US, @fluffypony asked Musk: “When are one of these opening back home, boet?”
Musk replied: “Probably end of next year.”

The 47-year-old tweeted in 2016 that Tesla's cheapest car, the Model 3, would be heading to South Africa. It has yet to arrive.
Prices for the Model 3 start at $35,000 (or roughly R500,00). Tesla’s Model S costs $75,000 (roughly R1 million), the Model X cost $80,000 (roughly R1.1 million) and the Roadster $200,000 (roughly R2.8 million).
The South African prices can, however, be considerably higher due to the country's 25% import tax on electric vehicles.

The four-seater Roadster is the world’s quickest standard commercial vehicle, accelerating to 60mph or 96.6km/h in just under two seconds.
It has a top speed of 250mph (a touch over 400km/h) and has a total range of 620 miles (just under 1,000km) - roughly the distance between Cape Town and Bloemfontein.

Meanwhile, the Model S can seat five people, and accelerates to 60mph in 2.5 seconds.
It has a range of 500km.

The Model X has the longest electric range of any sports vehicle in the world at 470km.

It can recharge for a 270km drive in 30 minutes at Tesla supercharge locations.
After one full year on the market, the Model X ranked in 2016 seventh among the world's best-selling plug-in cars.

The Model 3, designed for the mass market, has a total range of 500km and accelerates to 60mph in 3.4 seconds.

All the vehicles can recharge over a household electrical plug, and comes with a four-year warranty.

SAFETY TIPS FOR OUR CLIENTS OF USED JAPANESE CARS IN DURBAN

SAFETY TIPS FOR THOSE COMING TO DURBAN TO BUY USED JAPANESE VEHICLES

An Aerial view of Durban City. Please note that some Dealerships  are out of town.

Money, money, money, Your Safety and The Safety of Your Money.

The main reason why you should be extra careful is that in the eyes of every one who knows or assumes that you are going to Durban to buy a used Japanese Car, you are carrying cash, not only cash but huge amounts of money. Even if you are not carrying a single cent, people will assume that since you say you are going to Durban to view cars, chances are high that you have money. This alone puts your life at risk.

The best thing you can do is to keep all the plans about your trip to yourself. If you need some information, advice and tips about going to Durban, you should ask a close friend or relative who has been there, ask people whom you trust but try not divulge when you will be going nor the amount of money you will be carrying. Just ask for safety tips.

If you carrying cash, make sure that its hidden, well hidden, thoroughly hidden. Avoid putting the cash or all of it in your pocket or wallet. Find means of hiding your hard earned money. Protect it from some of the vultures in the form of human beings whom are likely to meet along the way, especially Joburg Park Station.

Before you leave, just make sure that your close relative/next of kin knows, if you are married of course your wife/husband or kids should know. If you know that you are going to meet someone in Durban who will help you out, then leave the contact details of that person with your spouse or close relative so that if need be they can confirm if you travelled well.

If you are carrying cash, always and always try to declare it by the boarder. They rarely ask to see the money, usually you just fill up some form.

NB:NB :REPEAT : BE SAFE, AVOID MOVING IN GROUPS. NORMALLY 3 OR 4 IS A CROWD. DONT TALK TO STRANGERS, DONT TALK ABOUT CARS . EVEN IF SOMEONE TALKS ABOUT DURBAN DEALERSHIPS - WHERE TO BUY - CHEAP PLACES etc, DONT ENTERTAIN THEM OR JOIN THE CONVERSATIONS- IT MIGHT BE A TRAP, EVEN IF THEY COME FROM THE SAME COUNTRY AS YOURS.

During Your Trip Always Be Safe Before and After Buying Your Used Japanese Vehicle.

1.       Avoid talking to strangers, avoid sharing details about your trip. Most people get robbed by people they meet along the way who pretend that they know everything in Durban. Most people get robbed by people who pretend as if they want to help them out.Even if they speak the same language with you don’t trust them for most of them are just wolves in sheep clothing.

2.       Arrange and plan your trip well. If you are using a bus and connecting in Jbg or Pretoria, avoid spending too much time in Jbg. Park Station is not safe at all. Sometimes it is safe and cheaper to fly from Jbg to Durban if you arrange your trip well in advance. You can find flight from +/-500 to 1200 Rands. That is 45mins of flying Vs 7 hours by bus.

3.       Make Sure you have someone waiting to pick you up the moment you arrive in Durban. Don’t show every Tom, Dick and Harry that you don’t know where you are going. Avoid asking strangers for Directions because you will just be showing everyone that you are not familiar with the place. Arrange for someone to pick you, someone trustworthy and someone who knows where the Dealerships of Used Japanese vehicles are.

4.       Avoid Moving in and out of the Garages on Foot. Most people get robbed because they think they can move in and out the Dealerships of Used Japanese Vehicles on foot. Mostly because they want to save R400,but in the process of saving they lose more.Walking in and out of the garages is not and should never be an option. You will be putting your life at risk. The moment you walk inside a Dealership of Used Japanese Vehicles, everyone knows that you are a Foreign National. This is mainly so because South Africans are by law not allowed to enter inside the Dealerships. When you walk out, make sure there is a car outside and when the car takes off, make sure that you are not being followed. If you think you are being followed, go and park at the nearest police station or call the police. Don’t stop.

So in short, these are some of the safety tips. Plan your journey, from the time you leave your home country to the moment you arrive in Durban. Don’t leave anything to chance. Avoid asking strangers for directions or help. When you arrive in Durban always have a trusted hand to help you out, always have some waiting to pick you up so that you avoid moving around asking for help or directions. Don’t act confused even if you are, always be confident.

You can arrange with Tami or Emmanuel of ADECO AFRICA AUTOS to be picked from the Airport or Durban Station, and be taken to different Dealerships for you to compare prices and vehicles.

SINGAPORE Vs JAPANESE VEHICLES : A COMPARISON

Singapore Vs Japanese Used Cars : A Comparison

Singapore Vs Japanese Used Cars : Which One Is Better?

Singapore Vehicles are slowly but surely penetrating the African Market of used Vehicles. Most people however do not know the difference between Japanese Vehicles and Singapore used Cars.  For those who know or assume to know,  the question they always ask themselves is,  Which Is Better Between a Used car from Japan and a Used car from Singapore.

Based on our personal experience (we have driven and still use 3 Singapore cars and 2 from Japan),  the Japanese cars top the list and way better than the Singapore Vehicles.  Most customers who know about cars always prefer to buy Japanese and not Singapore Vehicles.

Last month for example, we sold a total of 15 Golf 5 Gtis.  7 were from Japan and 8 were from Singapore.  5 customers who bought the Singapore ones had complaints, mainly mechanical complaints. Out of the 7 who bought the Japanese ones only one had a complaint.
Also based on Customer complaints and feedback regarding these vehicles, we can safely say that 90% of the complaints come from clients who would have bought the Singapore Vehicles. We do get complaints from Japanese Cars clients but they are not as bad as the Singapore ones. So in this vain we can safely say Japanese cars are way better than Singapore Cars. Japanese cars are stronger and more durable than Singapore Cars.

WHY DO PEOPLE BUY SINGAPORE CARS IN DURBAN?

People buy Singapore Vehicles for various reasons. Below we look at some of them.

Price: This is a bit debatable.  Some Singapore vehicles,  especially SUVS are way cheaper than their Japanese counterparts. As a result most people who buy these cars for reselling normally buy used cars from Singapore because they are cheaper,  and they are likely to make more profits when reselling in other countries like Botswana,  Zambia or Zim. The downside is that even though you buy the Singapore cars Cheaper,  you are most likely to spend more money fixing the car and buying Spares for the car. So you need to make a wiser choice when choosing between a Singapore and Japanese Vehicle.

•Full House/Leather Interior : Anyone and obviously most people buying a car would give first priority to a car that comes fullhouse and mostly with Leather interior. Most or say 99% of Used Japanese Vehicles do not come with leather seats. On the other hand 99% of Used Singapore Vehicles come with leather seats.  That is one of the reasons why people buy vehicles from Singapore in Durban. However once you have a breakdown on your way to an important meeting or during an emergency,  then you will know that durability of a car is more important than leather interior.

The names of the cars : Some people buy Singapore Vehicles because they like the names of the cars more than anything else. This deserves an article on its own so i will just explore this in passing. You get some clients who want Mazda 3 not Axella,  some need Yaris not Vitz,  some need Mazda 6 not Mazda Atenza,  and others need Honda Jazz and not Honda Fit. However the truth is beside some slight differences,  Honda Jazz and Honda Fit is one and the same thing,  Mazda 3 and Axella same thing,  Vitz and Yaris same thing. The main difference is that one is from Singapore and the other one is from Japan. Another major difference worth considering when buying these cars is that Japanese is more durable,  is stronger than Singapore.

So Which Is Better: Japanese or Singapore Used Vehicles?

The final verdict should be yours. The article just gives you our own analysis which might obviously be biased. Our biasness emanates mainly from our own experiences and from the experiences and feedbacks of our Clients. We have clients who have bought both japanese and Singapore cars,  and obviously their concerns are our concerns,  their complaints affect us both directly and indirectly. A happy customer brings in more business through referrals. An unhappy client rarely recommends another client. Most of our happy clients come from those who buy used Japanese Vehicles. Most of our unhappy clients come from those who buy Singapore Vehicles.

WHICH IS MORE DURABLE BETWEEN JAPANESE AND SINGAPORE VEHICLES?

The truth of the matter is that Japanese cars are more durable than Singapore vehicles. This is mainly due to the fact that Singapore cars corrode faster than Japanese cars. This partly also explains why the Singapore makes are way cheaper than their Japanese Counterparts. Before buying these cars, think Corrossion, think Mechanical problem and think Durability. The car might be cheaper to buy, but it will obviously cost you more in the long run.

So these are some of the things you need to consider before sending someone to come buy a car for you in Durban or before you buy your car in Durban. If you are sending someone to come buy on your behalf,  always specify whether you   need Singapore or a Japanese used Vehicle. Most go for Singapore because it leaves them with a bit of change in the pocket. Most will convince you that they paid a little bit more because the car has leather interior and sunroof yet price wise its way cheaper and less durable than its Japanese counterpart.

New and old model Mitsubishi Eclipse will connect just fine. The layout is completely sound changed and updated. In life returns only the name. The car was produced as a sports coupe until 2012. Now it comes like a mid-size crossover between ASX and Outlander models. This is the latest product that Mitsubishi has launched as an independent producer.

2018 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE CROSS: EXTERIOR

Compared to some previous concepts, the look is very little changed. Retained dynamic lines and sharp form. These characteristics contribute to a lot of front and rear LED lights and angled roof line. By customer request, the roof can be panoramic, made of glass and is slightly thicker than a conventional roof. Rear glass is divided into two parts and it may interfere with the drivers because it affects the visibility of the road behind you. This could be a disadvantage compared to the perfect front part of the vehicle.

2018 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE CROSS: INTERIOR

The cabin has enough space for a comfortable ride. The seats are comfortable and have excellent ergonomics. At the rear bench, there is enough room for legs even if travelers have higher growth. The rear seats can be moved and all passengers can be accommodated without problems. The space between the rear seat and cargo space in the form of a roll, which can be removed. The cockpit is well planned. It is divided into two parts. The upper part contains all the information, while the lower part the operation and handling of all systems in the vehicle. The instruments have a three-dimensional view and are very transparent. The 7-inch display is set at the top of the console and is sensitive to the touch. Next, to the selector lever is located the touch screen surface with which you can enter the menu system. The cabin of the model Mitsubishi Eclipse is excellent. Were selected the best materials. Finishing is commendable.

2018 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE CROSS: ENGINE

The new version of the Mitsubishi Eclipse is equipped with a brand new petrol engine. This is a 1.5-liters 4-cylinder turbo engine with an output of 163 hp and a torque of 184 lb/ft. The engine works perfectly with the 8-speed automatic CVT transmission. It has a very smooth running and even in urban driving conditions. This may particularly be felt on winding roads and hilly terrain. Acceleration from 0 to 60 mph Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross achieves in 9.6 seconds and has a maximum speed of 125 mph. These data refer to all-wheel drive. But the plan for the future is the introduction of another great diesel generator. It should be 2.2-liters diesel engine with an output of 150 hp and torque of 360 Nm.

2018 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE CROSS: PERFORMANCES

The feeling when driving should meet the needs of the average driver and family man. Engine braking is not necessary because the SUV contains CVT transmission. However, if nevertheless, you choose to drive such a way, when driving in sharp bends maybe you will feel the delay in response of the vehicle. Slight throttle and turning the great wheel, you will simply feel the AWD system transmits power to the wheels. During all maneuvers, the body is not tilted much more, while the trim reliance good. It can only be concluded that the AWD system has improved vehicle performance in relation to power 80/20.

2018 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE CROSS: DRIVING

With all the electronic additions to the management and assistance, which is equipped with a Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, the ride is more comfortable and safer. Unnecessary extras do not have but you never know what you can blame or indicate if you lack. All that have competitors, Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has. The market should reach at the beginning of 2018, and there is enough time for improvements.

Difference Between The FSI and TSI ENGINES Explained

What’s the difference between FSI and TSI ?

20tsi-gen1

There have been some questions between the differences between the VW/Audi 2.0 liter FSI and TSI engines.  I will try and highlight the differences between them to help you understand the evolution of the TSI powerplant from the TSI.  I won’t be covering every difference, but I will try to go over the most significant differences.

Before we get too far into describing the differences I would like to clarify that TSI, FSI and TFSI have been used on varying models as marketing vernacular for VW/Audi.  Just looking at the engine cover is not always a sure fire way to identify one from the other.

What does FSI and TSI stand for?
FSI is short for “fuel stratified injection” or “fuel straight injection” and TSI is short for “turbo stratified injection”.  These are types of fuel injection systems that allow engines to run lean air-to-fuel ratios (better fuel economy) by creating a fuel rich “stratified charge” near the spark plug, but the side-effect is increased NOx (nitrogen oxide).  Catalytic converters can remove the extra NOx, but the high sulfur content in U.S. fuel contaminates and destroys them.  In Europe FSI engines use the lean burn for optimized power and economy, but the U.S. version uses the same air-to-fuel ratio as port-injected engines.

So, from this description we know that we are talking about a type of injection system, not an engine block.  You will see in the modern VW/Audi lineup that TSI, FSI and TFSI are used on a range of engines such as the 3.0, 4.0, and 4.2 liter engines.  What we are really looking at then when we are talking about the 2.0TSI and 2.0FSI are the differences between the EA113 engine code normally associated as the FSI, and the EA888 engine code normally associated as the TSI.

For the remainder of this article I am still going to refer to the differences between the FSI and TSI instead of the engine codes for the simple fact that it has become common practice to use them interchangeably for the EA113 and EA888 codes.

What is the same between FSI and TSI?
  • Displacement:   1984cc
  • Max Power:       200hp
  • Max Torque:      206 lb ft
  • Valves per Cylinder:        4
  • Bore:     82.5mm
  • Stroke: 92.8mm
  • Firing Order:       1-3-4-2

What changed from the FSI to the TSI?
  • Chain timing versus belt timing in the FSI
  • Compression Ratio: 9.6:1 down from 10.5:1
  • Engine Management: Bosch MED 17 from Bosch MED 9
  • Oxygen Sensors: Addition of one for a total of 3, from 2
  • Main bearing caps are now cross bolted to the block for additional strength.
  • Oil spray jets to piston undersides for improved cooling and lubrication.
  • More balanced cam shafts in the center of the block
  • Improved fueling system running the HPFP (high pressure fuel pump) off of a dedicated lobe on the exhaust cam.
  • Improved flowing cylinder head
  • Updated internals with less internal parasitic loss
  • Improved PCV system

From the list you can probably see that the TSI is a definite evolution from the FSI.  There is a common misconception that the EA113 FSI is the more “tuner friendly” because VW released it in the premium Golf R.  This was really the result of production and development timelines from VW, not strength and power limitations for the EA888 TSI.  As the EA888 TSI platform progresses you will be seeing some incredible power out of the latest evolution of VW/Audi’s small displacement turbo platform.
